Endorsements

Additional endorsements to a Merchant Mariner Credential may be required for certain operations.

An auxiliary sail endorsement is required to run an inspected sailing vessel.

Sea service requirements: 

Masters Near Coastal auxiliary sail endorsement

- 360 days total on sail or auxiliary sail vessels

- 90 days in the past three years.

Masters Inland auxiliary sail endorsement

- 180 days total on sail or auxiliary sail vessels

- 90 days in the past three years

A towing assistance endorsement is required to tow another vessel for compensation, including work for towing assistance companies such as TowBoatUS and Sea Tow.

Each endorsement requires 100 percent attendance of a four hour class via Zoom and the successful completion of an exam by appointment and in-person at our facility in Hyannis.

Course includes books, instruction, exams, and assistance with the Coast Guard application.
